Taylor Group Research

Jess graduated from the University of York in 2019 with an MChem degree. During her final year project, she worked on the synthesis of medium-sized rings from linear precursors via a Nitrogen Induced Cyclisation/ Expansion (NICE) method under Dr Will Unsworth. Jess' Ph.D. is in collaboration with Prof. Chris Frost and Dr Hannah Leese working on "catch and release" palladium catalysis. In her spare time, Jess enjoys playing hockey, dancing, reading and going on hikes.

Mark completed his integrated Master in Chemistry degree at Cardiff University where he undertook a final year research project in synthetic organic electrochemistry, supervised by Dr Louis Morrill. This project focused on the further development of an electrochemical deconstructive chlorination reaction that allows for the synthesis of chlorinated ketones from cycloalkanols. During his degree Mark also spent a year in industry, working as an analytical scientist at AstraZeneca. Mark’s PhD research focuses on electrochemically driven deoxygenations of alcohols. Outside of chemistry, Mark enjoys a wide range of hobbies such as fencing, reading, and playing the violin.

Aaron recently completed his BSc Chemistry degree from the University of Huddersfield in addition to receiving the Ross Thompson Physical Memorial Prize for Outstanding Performance in Physical Chemistry in the final year. With a particular interest in organic chemistry, Aaron is very excited to have the opportunity to learn more about automotive propulsion technologies in the hope of building his understanding on alternative fuel sources. Aaron's PhD is in collaboration with Prof. Chris Chuck and Prof. Steve Bull, working towards optimising production of p-menthane/p-cymene blends from naturally occuring crude sulfate turpentine and how these blends could be incorporated within combustion engines. Away from University Aaron enjoys making music, lifting weights and travelling.

Tom graduated from the University of Leeds in 2021 with an MChem in Medicinal Chemistry. His PhD is in collaboration with Prof. Steve Bull working on utilising the Diels-Alder reaction class to produce aromatic scaffolds which can be utilised for potential theranostic applications. Tom is currently working at the University of Leicester with Prof. Bull. In his spare time Tom enjoys all things gaming, computing, and generally triangular.

Siqi is originally from Guangzhou, China. She graduated from University of Huddersfield in 2019 majored in Pharmaceutical Chemistry as a part of 3+1 program. Siqi then came to the University of Bath and did Msc in Drug Discovery. Siqi's PhD is in collaboration with Prof. Steve Bull working on new methods for the synthesis of vinyl isocyanides. In her spare time, Siqi enjoys sleeping, eating, watching films and photography.

Laureline is undertaking an industrial PhD at AstraZeneca, which is supported by the University of Bath in collaboration with Prof. Steve Bull (University of Leicester)

Amber is working on a project in collaboration with Prof. Frank Marken on the development of new interdigitated electrosynthetic cells.

Emma completed her MChem at the University of Bath with a year in industry at AstraZeneca working as a process chemist. Emma did my masters project in the Taylor group working on the synthesis of benzopyrrolo-oxazole heterocycles via arylboronic acid catalysis and will continue this work into my PhD looking at catalytic dehydrative methodologies for heterocycle synthesis. In her spare time, Emma likes crocheting and baking.
